For Some Reason

May 17, 2007 - Leave a Response

Ok I’ll try to make this quick, because I’m sleepy haha! Friday last week was my last day with <insert company name here>. I am sad to leave. I’ll save that sadness for some other blog entry I guess. Anyway..

Some stuff from last week. (click pictures to enlarge)

Thursday. We celebrated my farewell party with pizza.. Sarpino! (courtesy of Lucy). Then we turned the meeting room into a moviehouse! (courtesy of Arman). We watched “Happily Never After”. Hmm.

Friday. My colleague TL treat me out for lunch.. Fish and Co! Then she gave me this present..  A namecard holder :) I’ve never had one before, so this was a nice surprise :) I hope I’d be given namecards to give away though haha. Thanks TL!

Friday still I met up with Maylene who was transiting back to Manila from Sydney. Maylene is/was/will forever be our Forgetting Luna “manager” because she booked us gigs in places all over Metro Manila haha. I owe her a lot. So I took her to the Merlion. Wahahaha! She didn’t seem impressed, so I took her to a Korean-bbq resto near Esplanade, my treat. That made her happy hehe.

Saturday. I went to Zouk with Tiffany (Chino’s friend) and her friends (I forgot all their names already, I’m so good with names) to watch Nouvelle Vague (see their MySpace site here), a bossa-nova-new-wave-lounge type of music. I’ve never seen a bar so packed. And I forgot to take a picture! I think Tiffany’s friend did so I’ll just wait for that. Then we had a “nachos” dinner somewhere along Clark Quay. Because the resto was only serving nachos at the time we arrived.

Sunday. I was supposed to accompany Maylene to the hippo tour, but I was so wasted and lazy to get up from bed, so I cancelled. Actually it was good that I cancelled because..

Monday. I got sick. Went on til Wednesday.

Thursday. Oh it’s today haha. I got back on my feet and went out for some real food. Cavana. (well it’s almost real). I ordered a veggie plate. Guess how much it cost me..

Hahaha! I was laughin while I was taking a picture of this. The cashier guy wasn’t smiling. He asked what I was doing.

“Uh, it’s funny, so I can show to my friends??”. I paid the real amount and hurried off to my table :P

My friends happened to be the whole Internetssss :P

I did some heavy shopping today before heading home.

Hmm they’re really pushing this one.. (click picture below to view the whole ad)

Now I’m wondering, what’s keeping developers here in SG (Singaporeans and Filipinos alike) from creating their own gadgets. There’s a ton of opportunity here! It’s a freakin permanent advertising tool on the desktop!

Argh, I think I’m taking this too personal. Ha ha! I need to do something.

Ah Chris, you’ll never learn :P

Singapore ranks highest among world’s fastest walkers

May 3, 2007 - Leave a Response

I always thought their escalators run faster than normal, now there’s an actual study that shows Singapore as having the world’s fastest walkers..

People were in the greatest hurry in Singapore. Following in their footsteps were the residents of Copenhagen and Madrid, the two fastest-paced European cities.

UPDATE: New pic below from Suzette of pinoyITdotSG.

I attended a geek event last Saturday set up by software communities here in SG specifically Microsoft product users. You can check the details here. Anyway, Shih and Joel (housemate) was there, and I met some new friends too. I didn’t tell them that I’d be “somewhat” presenting in front in one of the talks. Though I didn’t really talk, I just coded stuff and it was projected into the screen while my friend Edwin did the talking/explaining. Here are some pics (courtesy of Joel (housemate)) :P

The talk topic..

That’s me behind Edwin, see my arching back. I’m camera shy wahaha!

Stuff I was coding, I originally typed in my blog site, but later changed it to www.example.com :P

With Shih in Microsoft’s pantry (I think I was saying something when Joel took the photo, else I won’t be smilin’ weird like this bwahaha)

With Jonathan, who frequents these kinds of geek events :P

They got a lot of freebies. I didn’t! Anyway I’d like to thank Edwin for asking me to help out in the event, although I did more of a mess than help lol.

UPDATE: Another picture from Suzette from pinoyITdotSG. Thanks!

Paperweights

April 27, 2007 - One Response

I want to cite a paragraph from a book I recently bought. It talks about passion.

Authors Robert J. Kriegel and Louis Patler cite a study of 1,500 people over twenty years that shows how passion makes a significant difference in a person’s career:

At the outset of the study, the group was divided into Group A, 83 percent of the sample, who were embarking on a career chosen for the prospects of making money now in order to do what they wanted later, and Group B, the other 17 percent of the sample, who had chose their career path for the reverse reason, they were going to pursue what they wanted to do now and worry about the money later.

The data showed some startling revelations:

  • At the end of the 20 years, 101 of the 1,500 had become millionaires
  • Of the millionaires, all but one – 100 out of 101 – were from Group B, the group that had chosen to pursue what they loved!

I hate bookstores!!!!!!

I also bought Wrox’s Professional XML. You can check my bookshelf here for my growing list of paperweights.
